When someone inside the business checks the website, they usually do it from a desk. Large monitor. Wired or strong Wi-Fi connection. A browser they have used before. From that view, the site loads quickly. The layout looks fine. There is no obvious problem.
That is not wrong. But it is incomplete.
Two different test profiles
The Showroom Standard benchmark measures website performance under a desktop profile and a mobile profile. The difference is striking:
- Approximately 71% of verified dealer sites meet Google's 2.5 second desktop LCP threshold in a standardized lab test.
- Fewer than 4% meet Google's 2.5 second mobile LCP threshold in the same standardized lab test.
Both figures describe the same measured population, each site tested under both profiles in the same pass. Neither is a reading of real visits. They are lab measurements set against the threshold Google publishes, and the comparison between them is a comparison of two test profiles.
Why the gap gets missed
Dealers and their digital teams usually check the website from inside the business. Desktop view, good connection, familiar browser. The site loads in a second or two. It looks fine.
That is close to the conditions the desktop profile describes. The mobile profile is built to resemble a different set of conditions: a phone, often on cellular, sometimes with poor signal, arriving cold with nothing cached.
The desktop profile is why the gap is easy to miss. The mobile profile is the one built to resemble how these sites are usually reached, and it is the profile most dealer sites measure worst under.
What the snapshot shows
The free snapshot measures your site under both profiles. It shows them together so you can see the gap.
The snapshot does not rank desktop performance. Desktop is context. It shows you what you see when you check the site yourself. Mobile is the profile the benchmark reads the layer on.
The point is not to shame the site. It is to reveal a gap that is easy to miss from inside the showroom.
